Dixie and Thelma

I watched some Lucy re-runs tonight with our young womens group. It was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their reactions to Lucy and Ethel's antics.

I have friends and family but somehow I think we have lost the kind of friendships we see in Lucy and Ethel. With everyone working nowadays, we don't have time to 'get into trouble' like those two did.

My Aunt Dixie had such a friend though. She and Thelma were back fence neighbors and when I was growing up, I would always see them together talking across the fence. Thelma had red hair and freckles and was one of the nicest, happiest people I can remember. Of course, Dixie is, and always was, beloved by all and a blast to hang around. Everyone wants to be her back fence neighbor.

I will be hanging out with my cousins in a few weeks, and if I can get the scoop on any antics Dixie and Thelma were up to, I will update.

Best Oatmeal Cookies - Ever!

Cream all the wet ingredients together
Add the cornflakes and oats by hand and stir well.
Can you smell 'em?

When I was a kid, my mom, Mabel, was a lunchlady at my junior high and let's just say that I was (and am) known for my sweet tooth -especially in the area of cookies.

"When I was in school..." no, I didn't walk uphill both ways in 5 feet of snow - after all, I lived in So. California - BUT, in those days there was no pre-packaged, frozen, pre-prepared food in the cafeteria line up. If turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy were on the menu - it was whole roasted turkeys with homemade gravy and real potatoes.

Anyway, my mom would always save me one of these cookies on "Ranger Cookie Day" so that when I went through the line, I'd be sure to get one. The head cook re-calculated the recipe for home baking and I guard this one - not by keeping it a secret, but by sharing it with others so in case I should ever lose it, I can ask any of my family or friends for a copy. Or better yet -- a warm Ranger Cookie!

Baby Booties Shower Giftie

Wow! - a crochet-er I am NOT! - but I get points for trying. I found this cute pattern at a shop in tiny little Nephi, Utah coming back from a weekender trip with my hubby and thought I'd give it a try.

I don't even want to post the picture of the pattern - because then you'd see how mine doesn't look quite the same! ha ha.

They say it's all in the packaging - right?? I was invited to a baby shower and packaged my booties in such a pretty box - takes your mind off.

This is a little scrapbook made by my 9 year old granddaughter out of paper sacks. I think it's adorable so I borrowed it to photograph. I hope you can tell how it's put together from these pictures. I'll try to describe them best I can. I think what makes them cute are the embellishments, and of course, the 'built-in' pockets - because they're SACKS!
